Her parents' home is so shaky that 16-year-old Suzanne (Sandrine Bonnaire) tries to find new stability in, of all things, changing affairs. For her, sex without love is also an expression of her rebellion against the messed-up situation at home. However, young Luc, who feels genuine affection for Suzanne, doesn't stand a chance with her. Suzanne increasingly loses the ground beneath her feet. When her father has an affair and her parents separate, she increasingly comes into conflict with her older brother Robert, who tries to take over the role of father and control Suzanne's life - using violence if necessary. Meanwhile, her mother (Evelyne Ker) plunges into a deep depression. Suzanne only hesitantly realizes that there is hardly anything left in her life that promises to give her stability... French film star Sandrine Bonnaire was just 16 years old at the premiere of the film that launched her great career. And with her role as Suzanne, she immediately won the French film award César for Best Young Actress. Bonnaire would later go on to make "Police" and "Sous le soleil de Satan" with director Maurice Pialat, one of the greats of French auteur cinema, who also played the role of her father in this film. "A Nos Amours" turns out to be a haunting portrait of an adolescent whose attempts to escape from family hell only fuel new conflicts and whose feelings are anything but simplified by the moral concepts of her time. Pialat has staged a direct film that refuses any distance or sentimentality, which is rightly considered one of his strongest on the subject of dysfunctional families and has not lost its intensity to this day.
